Component Functional Description - EGR Valve
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valves function differently than the typical EGR valves. These EGR valves are able to be commanded to open to variable positions instead of fully opened/closed like a traditional EGR valve. This allows the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to not only fully open and close either valve, but also the ability to blend the flow rate between the two EGR systems.
The PCM is not able to directly monitor the valve positions to determine if they are at the commanded position. Instead, the PCM monitors different pressure sensors and the EGR temperature sensors to calculate the flow rates and EGR valve positions.
