Removal And Installation: Removal

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  3. Remove the engine belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  4. Remove the right side front halfshaft. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  5. Remove the fasteners (1) from the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) bracket.

  6. Remove the fasteners (1) securing the PTU bracket (2) to the engine block and remove the PTU bracket from the vehicle.
  7. Remove the exhaust crossunder pipe. Refer to PIPE, EXHAUST CROSSUNDER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  8. Remove and position aside the right catalytic converter. Refer to CONVERTER, CATALYTIC, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  9. Remove the fasteners (1) securing the PTU upper heatshield (2).

  10. Remove the fastener (1) securing the PTU upper heatshield and remove the heatshield from the vehicle.

  11. Remove the fasteners (1) securing the PTU lower heatshield (2) and remove the heatshield from the vehicle.

  12. Remove the rear torque strut fastener (1) at the transmission.
  13. Using a support stand, shift the front of the drivetrain upward.

  14. Install the special tool (#2075300030, Remover, Driveshaft Front Joint) (1) to the driveshaft (2) with tapered bore of the tool towards the driveshaft joint boot.

  15. Using a prybar (2) to pry against the special tool (#2075300030, Remover, Driveshaft Front Joint) (1) separate the driveshaft from the PTU.
  16. Remove and DISCARD  the retention ring on the output shaft of the PTU.
  17. Remove the rear engine mount isolator. Refer to INSULATOR, ENGINE MOUNT, REAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  18. Remove the fasteners (1) from the rear torque strut bracket.

  19. Remove the fastener (1) and remove the rear torque strut bracket from the vehicle.

  20. Disconnect the PTU actuator wire harness connector (1).

  21. Remove the fasteners (1) from the PTU.

  22. Remove the fasteners (1) from the PTU. Remove the PTU from the vehicle.
