Rear Wiper And Washer System: Description
An electrically operated rear wiper and washer system on this vehicle is standard factory equipment for domestic markets and optional equipment in other markets. The rear wiper and washer system includes the following major components which are described in further detail elsewhere in this service information:
- Body Control Module - The Body Control Module (BCM) is located in the passenger compartment beneath the driver side end of the instrument panel. Refer to MODULE, BODY CONTROL (BCM), DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION .
- Rear Washer Nozzle - The fluidic rear washer nozzle (4) is located on the liftgate spoiler above the liftgate glass.
- Rear Washer Plumbing - The plumbing (3) for the rear washer system consists of nylon hoses, molded rubber and plastic fittings. The plumbing connects to the washer reservoir jumper hose using a quick connect joint and then is routed along the right side of the engine compartment, through the bulkhead into the passenger compartment, up the right cowl side and A-pillar where it is connected using quick connect joint to a hose integral to the headliner that runs from the A-pillar to the rear edge of the headliner where it connects to a jumper hose using a quick connect fitting. The jumper hose routes through the rear roof header and through the liftgate upper using two grommets and connects to the washer hose which is integral to the spoiler using a quick connect joint. The integral spoiler hose routes to the washer nozzle and has an in-line check valve.
- Rear Wiper Arm and Blade - The single rear wiper arm (5) is secured by a nut directly to the rear wiper motor output shaft, which extends through the center of the liftgate glass near the base of the glass. The rear wiper blade is secured to the rear wiper arm with an integral latch, and is parked on the right side near the lower edge of the glass when the rear wiper system is not in operation.
- Rear Wiper Motor - The rear wiper motor (6) includes the motor bracket, three rubber-isolated wiper motor mounts and the rear wiper motor. The wiper motor output shaft is the only visible component of the rear wiper motor. The remainder of the motor is concealed behind the liftgate trim panel beneath the liftgate glass opening.
- Right Multifunction Switch - The right (wiper) multifunction switch, the left (lighting) multifunction switch, the Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) and the clockspring are integral to the Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) on the top of the steering column just below the steering wheel. Only the switch control stalks extending from the right and left sides of the steering column are visible, while the remainder of the switches are concealed beneath the steering column shrouds. The right multifunction switch is dedicated to providing all of the driver controls for the front, rear and headlamp wiper and washer systems, as equipped.
- Washer Pump/Motor - The reversible electric washer pump/motor unit is located in a dedicated hole in a sump area on the lower, forward surface of the washer reservoir, ahead of the right front wheel house. This single reversible washer pump/motor provides washer fluid to either the front or rear washer system plumbing, depending upon the direction of the pump motor rotation.
- Washer Reservoir - The washer reservoir (1) is located between the right front fender and the right inner fender shield, just ahead of the right front wheel house. The filler neck and cap (2) are accessed from the right front corner of the engine compartment.
Hardwired circuitry connects the rear wiper and washer system components to the electrical system of the vehicle. These hardwired circuits are integral to several wire harnesses which are routed throughout the vehicle and retained by many different methods. These circuits may be connected to each other, to the vehicle electrical system and to the rear wiper and washer system components through the use of a combination of soldered splices, splice block connectors and many different types of wire harness terminal connectors and insulators. Refer to the appropriate wiring information. The wiring information includes wiring diagrams, details of wire harness routing and retention, connector pin-out information and location views for the various wire harness connectors, splices and grounds. For proper wire repair, and connector repair procedures. Refer to WIRE SPLICING .
