Theory Of Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2022 Chrysler Voyager and 2022 Chrysler Pacifica. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The Security Gateway Module (SGW) provides security against certain types of attacks and threats from the scan tool and entertainment CAN Bus to the rest of vehicle's CAN Bus Modules. The SGW lies electrically between the vehicle modules on one side, Data Link Connector (DLC) and entertainment system modules on the other side. The main function of the SGW is to gate messages from one CAN Bus system to another. The SGW monitors the Fused B+, CAN Bus performance related faults, software and hardware for any concerns. The SGW does NOT  monitor the CAN C Diagnostic or CAN IHS Diagnostic circuits for concerns.

Successful communication with the vehicle is established thru the CAN C Diagnostic (+) and CAN C Diagnostic (-) circuits with the Diagnostic Scan Tool from the SGW.
