Surround View Camera System: Operation
The CVPM:
- receives signals from all four cameras
- reverse gear status
- steering angle signal
- vehicle speed signal
- door ajar switch status for all four doors and liftgate
The CVPM sends dynamic grid line images to the RRM (RRM) over CAN-I.
The RRM:
- defeats touch screen and radio displays
- receives reverse gear signal from Body Control Module (BCM) over CAN-I
- receives vehicle speed from CVPM over CAN-I
- receives video signals from CVPM
- sends live video feed to Display Screen Module (DSM)
The BCM receives:
- reverse gear status from CVPM over CAN-I
- Park assist data from PTS over CAN-C
The BCM sends reverse gear status to the RRM over CAN-I.
Parktronics Module (PTS):
- sends park assist data to the BCM over CAN-C
The DSM:
- displays live video feed from camera modules according to gearshift position and driver selection
The Surround View camera system uses multiple cameras to provide situational awareness during maneuvers requiring real-time visual checks of the vehicle's perimeter.
The Surround View Camera System is intended to provide a 360 degree top view by supporting four surround view cameras with a video processing unit which seamlessly stitches the video feeds together and outputs it to the display screen.
This 360 degree top view intended to be a parking aid and to assist with eliminating blind spots from the driver vision.
Display Screen View:
- The Surround View camera system views are displayed based on PRND status, vehicle speed and trajectory with more view options available through direct on-screen interaction on the touch screen display.
- Active dynamic, multicolored gridlines are overlaid on the video image to illustrate the vehicle's projected path based on the steering wheel angle, wheelbase and direction of travel.
Top/Rear View: The system automatically displays an on-screen mirrored image of the top/rear view shall be the initial (default) view associated with REVERSE, PARK and NEUTRAL gears. The driver will NOT be able to exit the top/rear view while the vehicle is in reverse.
Top/Front View: The front view can be accessed by selecting the front view on the touch screen. The top/front view is the initial (default) view associated with DRIVE gear.
Front Cross-Path View: By selecting the front or rear cross-path views on the touch screen, the driver will have a visual reference to on-coming traffic from either side of the vehicle.
The Central Vision Processing Module (CVPM) generates the view in the display according to inputs received from the four external cameras and driver touch screen inputs.
The CVPM stitches the video feeds together and outputs it to the DSM. The CVPM is capable of processing up to five cameras and is located on the right side bulkhead under the A-pillar.
Cameras: All four cameras are mounted in a similar vertical position approximately 750 mm (29.5 inches) minimum from the ground each with an unobstructed 190 degree angle field of view. Both mirror mounted cameras are angled slightly rearward aiming at the center of the vehicle's right and left sides. Each camera feed has two inline connectors.
