Description And Operation: Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2022 Chrysler Voyager and 2022 Chrysler Pacifica. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The clockspring is a mechanical electrical circuit component that is used to provide continuous electrical continuity between the instrument panel wire harness and the components mounted on or in the steering wheel.

Service replacement SCCMs are shipped centered and with a plastic lock installed. This lock should not be broken off until the SCCM has been installed on the steering column. If the lock is pulled and removed before the SCCM is installed on a steering column, clockspring centering may be compromised.

The instrument panel hardwired SCCM circuits may be diagnosed using conventional diagnostic tools and procedures. Refer to the appropriate wiring information. However, conventional diagnostic methods will not prove conclusive in the diagnosis of the clockspring squib circuits for the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). The most reliable, efficient and accurate means to diagnose the circuits related to SRS operation requires the use of a diagnostic scan tool and may also require the use of the Airbag Kit. Refer to the appropriate diagnostic information.
