Differential Fluid Fill

NOTE:

The differential is fluid fill for life.

NOTE:

The correct fill level is to the bottom of the fill plug hole. Be sure the vehicle is on a level surface or is hoisted in a level manner, in order to obtain the correct fill level.

NOTE:

Differential fluid must be equalized through out differential. It may take a couple of minutes for the fluid to equalize.

  1. Connect the scan tool to the vehicle.
  2. Navigate to the Drivetrain Control Module (DTCM) and activate "RDM service mode".
  3. Put the vehicle into 2WD mode.
  4. Start the engine and drive the vehicle at 72 km/h (45 mph) for 1-3 miles.
  5. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .

  6. Position a drain pan under the differential fill plug (1).
    NOTE:

    A small amount of fluid may drip out.

  7. Remove the differential fill plug (1). The fluid level should be at the bottom of the differential fill plug opening.
    CAUTION:

    RDM fluid contains a special modifier package for the wet clutch. Use of any other fluid not meeting the manufacturer specifications will cause damage to the RDM.

    NOTE:

    Do not add more the 170 ml (5.75 oz) of additional fluid.

  8. If the fluid level is low, use a suction gun or equivalent to fill the differential to the bottom of the differential fill plug opening with the specified fluid. Refer to CAPACITIES AND RECOMMENDED FLUIDS, SPECIFICATIONS .
  9. Install the differential fill plug and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
