Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
    1. Diagnose and repair all active Bus related Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) including Lost Communication DTCs before diagnosing this DTC.
    2. With the scan tool, read DTCs in all Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and record on the repair order.

      Is this DTC active?

      Yes

      • Go To  2

      No

  2. CHECK HEATED STEERING WHEEL TEMPERATURE SENSOR MESSAGE STATUS
    1. With the scan tool, check the status of the Heated Steering Wheel Temperature Sensor.

Does the Heated Steering Wheel Temperature Sensor status read "Signal Not Available (SNA)"?

      Yes

      • Go To 3

      No

      • The conditions that caused this DTC are not present at this time.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
      • Test complete.
  3. PERFORM VISUAL INSPECTION OF HEATED STEERING WHEEL TEMPERATURE SENSOR CONNECTORS, TERMINALS AND WIRING
    WARNING:

Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

    1. Remove the Driver Airbag in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to AIR BAG, DRIVER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
    2. Disconnect all Heated Steering Wheel Temperature Sensor related harness connectors.
    3. Inspect the harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
      • Proper connector installation.
      • Damaged connector locks.
      • Corrosion.
      • Signs of water intrusion.
      • Weather seal damage (if equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
      • Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
      • Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.

      Were any problems found?

      Yes

      • Repair or replace the Heated Steering Wheel Temperature Sensor wiring harness in accordance with Service Information.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No

      • Go To 4
  4. CHECK THE HEATED STEERING WHEEL TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE
    1. Measure the resistance of the Heated Steering Wheel Temperature Sensor between the (C92) Heated Steering Wheel Signal circuit and the (G907) EVIC Mux Return circuit at the Heated Steering Wheel Temperature Sensor component connector.
    2. Compare your findings to the chart below:
      Temperature Sensor Resistance
