Multi-Media Testing Function

Any diagnosis of the Audio system should begin with duplicating the customer concern (verify the problem), include checking for applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSB), Star Online Publications, software updates and the use of a diagnostic scan tool. Check for any Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) data. If a DTC is found, refer to - Radio and perform the appropriate diagnostic procedure before proceeding in this information.

The multi-media test was developed to help diagnose and determine the cause of customer concerns with features of the multi-media systems in the vehicle.

There are 9 specific functionality tests available for the multi-media systems:

  1. Operation of the AUX port
  2. Operation of the USB port for both power and Audio input concerns
  3. Bluetooth® phone pairing
  4. Bluetooth® hands free calling (send & receive) phone book push test
  5. Bluetooth® streaming audio
  6. Bluetooth® SMS messaging - send
  7. Bluetooth® SMS messaging - receive
  8. No Bluetooth® signal available
  9. No WiFi signal available

It is important to determine the system features supported by the vehicle's multi-media systems, customer's personal device and their compatibility with another.

The following websites are available to customers and dealership personnel for information on device compatibility, operation and supported features of the vehicle's multi-media systems:

NOTE:

Prior to performing any testing of the multi-media systems, the compatibility between the customer's personal device and the vehicle's multi-media systems

must be confirmed

When testing the functions of the multi-media systems, it is important to verify whether or not the vehicle is equipped with an internal or external Hands Free Module. In some cases the external Hands Free Module controls the operation of the external AUX and USB ports along with the Uconnect® functions. A WiFi subscription package may be required for purchasing, and the feature activated to function properly on select equipped vehicles.
