Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC NOTE:
LED LAMPS ONLY: After any Fault Sense circuit repair or replacement is completed, the Turn Lamps must be activated at least 20 cycles for the DTC status to change from Active to Stored. After the DTC status has been changed to Stored, the DTC can be erased from the internal memory of the Body Control Module (BCM).
- With the scan tool, read Body Control Module (BCM) DTCs and record on the repair order.
- With the scan tool, perform an ECU reset to the BCM, and then erase DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10.0 seconds.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Record the Environmental Data.
- Using the recorded Environmental Data and the When Monitored Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read BCM DTCs.
Is the DTC Active?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the TESTING FOR INTERMITTENT CONDITIONS procedure. Refer to TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK THE LEFT TAIL LAMP GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the Left Tail Lamp Assembly harness connector.
- Measure the resistance between ground and the Tail Lamp Ground circuit at the Left Tail Lamp Assembly harness connector.
Is the resistance above 1 Ohm?
Yes
- Repair the open in the Ground circuit.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- CHECK FOR VOLTAGE ON THE (L63) LEFT REAR TURN LAMP DRIVER CIRCUIT NOTE:
Make sure the Turn Lamps are off when performing this step.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Measure the voltage on the (L63) Left Rear Turn Lamp Driver circuit at the Left Tail Lamp Assembly harness connector.
Is there any voltage present?
Yes
- Repair the (L63) Left Rear Turn Lamp Driver circuit for an short to voltage.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 4
- CHECK THE BCM (L63) LEFT REAR TURN LAMP OUTPUT FOR PROPER OPERATION
- Turn the Left Turn Lamps on.
- Connect a 12-volt test light between ground and the (L63) Left Rear Turn Lamp Driver circuit at the Left Tail Lamp Assembly harness connector.
Does the test light illuminate on and off in sequence?
Yes
- Replace the Left Rear Turn Lamp in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 5
- CHECK THE (L63) LEFT REAR TURN LAMP DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the BCM C6/F harness connector.
- Measure the resistance of the (L63) Left Rear Turn Lamp Driver circuit between the Left Tail Lamp Assembly harness connector and the BCM C6/F harness connector.
Is the resistance above 1 Ohm?
Yes
- Repair the (L63) Left Rear Turn Lamp Driver circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 10
- CHECK FOR VOLTAGE ON THE LEFT TURN LAMP DRIVER CIRCUIT NOTE:
Depending on the vehicle, and how it is equipped, the circuit being tested may be listed as the (L63) Left Rear Turn Lamp Driver circuit, the (L52) Left Stop Lamp Driver circuit, or the (L9) Left Stop/Turn Lamp Feed circuit.
NOTE:Make sure the Turn Lamps and Stop Lamps are off when performing this step.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Measure the voltage on the equipped Left Turn Lamp Driver circuit at the Left Tail Lamp Assembly harness connector.
Is there any voltage present?
Yes
- Repair the equipped Left Turn Lamp Driver circuit for an short to voltage.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 7
- CHECK FOR VOLTAGE ON THE (L563) LEFT LIGHTING FAULT SENSE CIRCUIT
- CHECK THE EQUIPPED LEFT TURN LAMP DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE NOTE:
The circuit being tested may be listed as the (L63) Left Rear Turn Lamp Driver circuit, the (L52) Left Stop Lamp Driver circuit, or the (L9) Left Stop/Turn Feed Driver circuit.
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the BCM C6/F harness connector.
- Measure the resistance of the equipped Left Turn Lamp Driver circuit between the Left Tail Lamp Assembly harness connector and the BCM C6/F harness connector.
Is the resistance above 1 Ohm?
Yes
- Repair the Left Turn Lamp Driver circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 10
- CHECK THE (L563) LEFT LIGHTING FAULT SENSE CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the BCM C6/F harness connector.
- Measure the resistance of the (L563) Left Lighting Fault Sense circuit between the Left Tail Lamp Assembly harness connector and the BCM C6/F harness connector.
Is the resistance above 1 Ohm?
Yes
- Repair the (L563) Left Front Lighting Fault Sense circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 10
- CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS
- Disconnect all BCM harness connectors.
- Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
- Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
- Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
- Proper connector installation.
- Damaged connector locks.
- Corrosion.
- Other signs of water intrusion.
- Weather seal damage (if equipped).
- Bent terminals.
- Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
- Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
- Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.
Repair any conditions that are found.
- Reconnect all BCM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- With the scan tool, perform an ECU reset to the BCM, and then erase DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10.0 seconds.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read BCM DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace the Body Control Module (BCM) in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- Test complete.
