Removal And Installation

REMOVAL 

1. Set the parking brake.
2. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the floor console. Refer to CONSOLE, FLOOR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

4. Remove the shifter cable end (1) from the shifter ball stud and detach the shifter cable from the shifter cable bracket (2).

5. Detach the shifter cable end (1) from the transmission manual lever.

6. Detach the shifter cable (1) from the transmission shifter cable bracket.

7. Detach the shifter cable (1) from the clip.
8. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
9. Remove the exhaust heat shield.
10. Remove the nuts for the shifter cable grommet and plate assembly.
11. Pull the shifter cable and plate assembly through the opening in the floor pan.
12. Remove the shifter cable from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION 

1. Pull the shifter cable and plate assembly through the opening in the floor pan.
2. Install the shifter cable grommet and plate assembly nuts and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
3. Install the exhaust heat shield.

4. Attach the shifter cable (1) to the clip on top of the transmission.

5. Attach the shifter cable (1) to the shifter cable bracket.

6. Connect the shifter cable end (1) to the transmission manual lever.

7. Install the shifter cable end (1) on the shifter ball stud and attach the shifter cable to the shifter cable bracket (2).
8. Install the floor console. Refer to CONSOLE, FLOOR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
9. Connect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), connect the IBS connector first before connecting the negative battery cable.
10. Verify shifter cable adjustment. Refer to CABLE, SHIFT, ADJUSTMENTS .
