Description And Operation
DESCRIPTION
The vehicle can be equipped with a fixed tow hook. The external lighting of any trailer receives its power supply from the Trailer Tow Module (TTM) (1). The TTM is located on the rear left side of the vehicle behind the left quarter trim panel.
The TTM:
- is electrically connected to the wiring of the trailer through a connector near the tow hook
- applies all rear light activation of the vehicle to the trailer lights
OPERATION
The TTM is used to operate the trailer lamps and lighting system in conjunction with the vehicles various module outputs. The TTM monitors the Controller Area Network - Interior High Speed (CAN-IHS) bus network for lighting requests from the Body Control Module (BCM) and other inputs. The TTM is responsible for its own logic, actuation and sensing. The TTM is also responsible for trailer light indicator activation messages sent over the CAN-IHS bus to the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC).
Some of the CAN-IHS inputs received by the TTM include the following:
- vehicle speed
- reverse gear (EMEA only)
- stop lights OFF and ON requests
- turn and hazard lights OFF and ON requests.
- parking lights
- rear fog lighting (EMEA only)
The TTM assures that these lighting functions are synchronized with the vehicles lighting requests as read on the CAN-IHS bus. The TTM then sends the appropriate output OFF or ON signal to the respective trailer lights. The TTM also sends an output signal failure to the IPC, indicating if the light operation has failed. The IPC will then display the appropriate indiction.
