Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC 
    1. With the scan tool, read ORC DTCs and record on the repair order.
    2. Record the Environmental Data.
    3. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    4. Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    5. With the scan tool, read ORC DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

      • Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST .
      • Probing of the circuit cavities at the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) body harness connectors and in-line connectors using test kit 2022900080 for back probing the terminal will prevent vehicle wiring harness connector damage during diagnostic procedures.
  2. CHECK THE PASSENGER OCCUPANT DETECTOR SIGNAL AND RETURN CIRCUITS 
    NOTE:

    This test is intended to verify the integrity of the ODS signal and return circuits.

    WARNING:

    Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

    1. Disconnect the ORC and the ODS connectors for testing ODS signal and return circuits.
    2. Test both circuits for a short to ground, short to power, short together or open condition.

      Were any of the above conditions found?

      Yes 

      No 

  3. CHECK OCCUPANT DETECTION SENSOR OPERATION 
    1. Insure DTCs are cleared and operate the vehicle with a passenger in the passenger front seat.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      WARNING:

      If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
