Power Transfer Unit (PTU) Fluid Fill

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. If equipped, remove the skid plate. Refer to PLATE, SKID, SIDE, REMOVAL .

  3. Remove the heat shield fasteners (2) holding the heat shield (1) to the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) and remove the heat shield.

  4. Position a drain pan under the PTU fill plug.

  5. For the DK2 PTU, remove the fill plug (1).

  6. For the DK4 PTU, remove the fill plug (1).
  7. Fill the PTU to the bottom of the PTU fill plug hole using the specified fluid. Refer to CAPACITIES AND RECOMMENDED FLUIDS, SPECIFICATIONS .
    NOTE:

    It may take several minutes for the fluid to equalize in the PTU before a final fluid level check can be determined. 

  8. Install PTU fill plug and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .

  9. Install the PTU heat shield (1) and tighten the heat shield fasteners (2) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  10. If equipped, install the skid plate. Refer to PLATE, SKID, SIDE, INSTALLATION .
  11. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
