Rail, Fuel: Removal

WARNING:

High-pressure fuel lines deliver fuel under extreme pressure from the injection pump to the injectors. This could be as high as 207 bar (3, 002 psi). Use extreme caution when inspecting for high-pressure fuel leaks. Inspect for high-pressure fuel leaks with a sheet of cardboard. Wear safety goggles and adequate protective clothing when servicing fuel system. Fuel under this amount of pressure can penetrate skin causing serious or fatal injury.

NOTE:

If the fuel rail or the injectors are replaced, connect the diagnostic scan tool to the vehicle, go to Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in the "Miscellaneous functions" menu and start the following procedures: fuel feed system component replacement; adaptive parameter reset.

  1. Perform the fuel system pressure release procedure. Refer to FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE  .
  2. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the top and side engine covers. Refer to COVER, ENGINE, REMOVAL .
  4. Remove the air outlet pipe. Refer to COOLER AND HOSES, CHARGE AIR, REMOVAL .
  5. Remove the ignition coils. Refer to REMOVAL .
