Pump, Water: Installation: 3.6L

  1. Clean the mating surfaces.
    NOTE:

    Take notice of the locations and different lengths of the mounting bolts and make sure that they are installed in the same location as they were removed.

  2. Using a NEW  gasket, position the water pump and hand tighten the mounting bolts (1).

  3. Hand tighten the idler pulley (1) bolt.

  4. Tighten the bolts 1 - 12 in the sequence shown. Tighten the bolts to their respective torque:
    • Tighten the M6 mounting bolts to 11 Nm (8 ft. lbs.).
    • Tighten the M8 bolts to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.).
    • Tighten M10 bolt to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
    • Repeat the tightening sequence until the proper torque has been met.
  5. Spin the water pump to be certain that the pump impeller does not rub against the timing chain case or cover.

  6. Install the lower radiator hose (2).
  7. Install the lower return heater hose (1).

  8. Install the outlet hose and secure the clamps (2) at the thermostat housing.
  9. Install the outlet hose to the vacuum pump bracket (1) and securely tighten.
  10. Install the serpentine belt. Refer to BELT, SERPENTINE, INSTALLATION, 3.6L  .
  11. Install the electric vacuum pump. Refer to PUMP, ELECTRIC VACUUM, INSTALLATION .
  12. Evacuate air and refill the cooling system. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14. Check the cooling system for leaks. Refer to DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING .
