Removal And Installation

REMOVAL 

CAUTION:

Anytime the Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) is mounted on the steering column the steering shaft must be kept from turning or else SCCM damage will occur. Some vehicles do not have an internal lock mechanisms, so the steering column shaft must be preventing from rotating through use of a suitable tool.

LHD shown, RHD similar.

  1. Disconnect the intermediate shaft from the steering column shaft. Refer to SHAFT, INTERMEDIATE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  2. Remove the two intermediate shaft bulkhead bearing bolts (1) and slide the steering column intermediate shaft bearing off of the upper steering column shaft.

INSTALLATION 

LHD shown, RHD similar.

  1. Place the steering column intermediate shaft bearing over the studs and position the plate to the bulkhead.

  2. Install the two intermediate shaft bulkhead bearing bolts (1) and tighten to the proper specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. Connect the intermediate shaft to the steering column shaft. Refer to SHAFT, INTERMEDIATE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
