Bushings, Tension Strut: Installation
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2020 Chrysler 300 and 2019 Chrysler 300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Using a caliper, take four tension strut eyelet diameter measurements (1) approximately 45 degrees apart to ensure eyelet is not elongated.NOTE:
If the difference between the highest and lowest measurement is greater then 0.25 mm, or a value that exceeds 73.13 mm, the tension strut eyelet is excessively elongated and a NEW tension strut assembly is required.
- Position the tension strut so that the chamfer (1) is facing up for installation of the bushing.NOTE:
For this specific repair ONLY , to correctly measure the bushing installation torque, the threads on tool C-4212F MUST BE clean of all oils and grease and dry.
- Position the NEW
bushing in the tension strut with the flat side of the washer (1) aligned with the arm of the tension strut (2).
- Install Bushing Installer (special tool #2043101020, Installer, Bushing) (1) in the upper side of the clamp (2).
- Install the tension strut with bushing (4) in the clamp and tighten the clamp down.
- Using a torque wrench, monitor torque readings every 1/2 turn. Torque the NEW
bushing in until adapter makes contact with the tension strut casting face (3).NOTE:
If torque readings do not peak at or above 77 N-m (57 ft. lbs.), tension strut bore is out of tolerance. NEW tension strut assembly is required.
- Remove the tension strut (4) from the clamp (2).
- Install the tension strut. Refer to STRUT, TENSION, INSTALLATION .
