Injector(S), Fuel: Description
High-pressure lines deliver diesel fuel under extreme pressure from the injection pump to the fuel injectors. This may be as high as 2000 bar (29, 008 psi). Use extreme caution when inspecting for high-pressure fuel leaks. Fuel under this amount of pressure can penetrate skin causing personal injury or death. Inspect for high-pressure fuel leaks with a sheet of cardboard. Wear safety goggles and adequate protective clothing when servicing fuel system.
Three electronically controlled fuel injectors are located on top of each cylinder bank. The fuel injectors generate a fine fuel atomization at injection pressures of up to 2, 000 bar (29, 008 psi). Each fuel injector is held in place by a tensioning claw and retaining bolt. A copper seal ring (2) is located on the fuel injector tip to seal off the injector to the combustion chamber. When servicing the injectors, always replace the copper seal ring (2) and inspect the seal in the cylinder head cover. Lubricate the fuel injector body (1) with commercially available Nickel Anti-sieze Lubricant.
