Injector(S), Fuel: Operation
- The common rail system makes it possible to carry out a pre-injection (pilot injection) before Top Dead Center (TDC). This has the advantage of reducing the pressure shift in the combustion chamber, thus reducing the combustion noise typical of direct injection engines. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) controls the quantity of fuel injected, regulating the line pressure and injection times.
- The PCM processes the following information in order to control the quantity of fuel to inject:
- Accelerator pedal position
- Air temperature
- Battery voltage
- Coolant temperature
- Diesel fuel pressure
- Engine RPM
- Mass air flow
- Oxygen (O2) sensor
- Turbocharger boost pressure
