Control Unit: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 RAM ProMaster 3500, 2017 RAM ProMaster 2500, and 2017 RAM ProMaster 1500. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If installing a new control unit, REMOVE  the lockouts prior to installation. Refer to CONTROL UNIT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. Check O-ring on control unit to selector shaft and replace if necessary.
  3. REMOVE  locking device from selector shaft locking pin.

    NOTE:

    Selector shaft shown removed from transmission, procedure can be done with selector shaft installed.

  4. Lock the gear engagement rod to the selector shaft housing by pulling rod up while turning locking pin (1) towards front of vehicle.
  5. Lower the control unit assembly into place on the transmission.

  6. Install two control unit to transmission bolts (1) and tighten to the proper TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  7. Install remaining control unit to selector shaft bolt (3) and tighten to the proper TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  8. Install control unit to transmission bolt (2) and tighten to the proper TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  9. Install the routing bracket bolt (1) and tighten to the proper TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  10. Install the power unit to transmission bolts (1, 2) and tighten to the proper TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  11. Using a suitable tool (1) align the piston to gear engagement rod bolt holes.

  12. Install the piston to gear engagement rod bolt (1) and tighten to the proper TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  13. Rotate the locking pin (2) towards rear of vehicle to unlock gear engagement rod.
  14. Install the locking device (1) onto the gear engagement rod locking pin (2).

  15. Install the engagement rod bolt access cover (3)and torque to the proper TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  16. Install the access cover bolt (1) and tighten to the proper TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  17. Connect the fluid line to the clutch actuator transfer tube.

  18. Apply one drop of MOPAR® DIELECTRIC GREASE to each pin of the speed sensor (2).
  19. Connect the speed sensor (2) harness connector.
  20. Install the transmission. Refer to INSTALLATION .
  21. Using a scan tool, bleed the hydraulic systems.
