TENSIONER, Engine Timing: Description

The 3.0L diesel engine uses two types of tensioners. The upper timing tensioner (1, 2) is a fixed one time use tensioner and the lower timing tensioner (3) is a ratcheting type that is reusable. The tensioner are hydraulically operated with the adjusting portion riding on the right timing chain guide. Hydraulic support for the tensioner is supplied by forward oil passages in the engine block.
