Pump, Water: Removal: 3.6L

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  3. Remove the electric vacuum pump. Refer to PUMP, ELECTRIC VACUUM, REMOVAL .
  4. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to BELT, SERPENTINE, REMOVAL .
    WARNING:

    Constant tension hose clamps are used on most cooling system hoses. When removing or installing, use only tools designed for servicing this type of clamp. Always wear safety glasses when servicing constant tension clamps.

  5. Remove the lower heater hose (1) at the water pump and position aside.
  6. Remove the lower radiator hose (2) from the water pump and position aside.

  7. Remove the outlet hose clamps (2) at the thermostat housing.
  8. Remove the outlet hose from the vacuum pump bracket (1) and position aside.

  9. Remove idler pulley (1).

  10. Remove the water pump mounting bolts (1). Take notice to the water pump bolt locations and sizes.
    CAUTION:

    Do not pry on the water pump at the timing chain case/cover. The machined surfaces may be damaged resulting in leaks.

  11. Remove water pump and seal.
