Exhaust Gas RECIRCULATION, Diesel: Description
The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system (1) reduces Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx) in the engine exhaust. This is accomplished by allowing a predetermined amount of hot exhaust gases to recirculate and dilute the incoming fuel and air mixture.
The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system consists of the following components:
- EGR cooler
- EGR cooler manifold
- EGR vacuum valve solenoid
- EGR valve
- EGR wastegate vacuum solenoid
- EGR wastegate valve solenoid
- Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
- Vacuum pump
- Vacuum reservoir, lines and hoses
A malfunctioning EGR system can cause engine stumble, hesitation, rough idle, engine stalling and poor driveability.
