Module, Fuel Pump: Removal: Auxiliary
Risk of injury to eyes and skin from contact with fuel. Wear protective clothing and eye protection. Risk of poisoning from inhaling and swallowing fuel. Pour fuel only into appropriately marked and approved containers. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
The fuel system is under constant high pressure even with engine OFF. Until the fuel pressure has been properly released from the system, do not attempt to open the fuel system. Do not smoke or use open flames/sparks when servicing the fuel system. Make sure the area in which the vehicle is being serviced is in a well ventilated area. Failure to comply may result in serious or fatal injury.
- Perform the fuel system pressure release procedure. Refer to FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE PROCEDURE
.NOTE:
Prior to removing the fuel pump module, use compressed air to remove any accumulated dirt and debris from around fuel tank opening.
NOTE:The fuel pump module has to be properly located in the fuel tank for the fuel level gauge to work properly.
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
- Remove the rear seat assembly. Refer to SEAT, REAR, REMOVAL

- Cut along the perforated lines in the carpeting and position aside (1).
- Remove the screws (2) that secure the fuel module cover (3) to the floor.
- Lift up on the fuel pump module access cover (3, 4) and disconnect the wire harness connectors (2, 6).
- Carefully note or mark the fuel pump module flange and the edge of the opening in the fuel tank to indicate proper module orientation.
- Position the (special tool #10521, Wrench, Fuel Pump Lock Ring) into the notches on the outside edge of the lock ring (1).
- Install a 1/2 inch drive breaker bar into the (special tool #10521, Wrench, Fuel Pump Lock Ring).
- Rotate the breaker bar counterclockwise and remove the lock ring.
- Lift the auxiliary fuel pump module out of the fuel tank far enough to access the internal auxiliary pump fuel line.
- Disconnect the internal fuel line from the auxiliary fuel pump module.
- Remove the auxiliary fuel pump module from the fuel tank using caution not to bend the float arm.
- Remove and discard the rubber O-ring seal.
