3.0L Diesel

  1. Disconnect and isolate negative battery cable.

  2. Remove the engine cover (1).
  3. Remove the air cleaner body. For 3.0L diesel, refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL .
  4. Drain the cooling system. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  5. Remove the coolant temperature sensor. Refer to SENSOR, COOLANT TEMPERATURE, REMOVAL .

  6. Remove the coolant hose (2) from the water pump housing.
  7. Remove the thermostat assembly. Refer to THERMOSTAT, REMOVAL .

  8. Remove the lower radiator hose (1) from the water pump housing and position aside.
  9. Remove the belt tensioner assembly. Refer to TENSIONER, BELT, REMOVAL .

  10. Remove the bolts (2, 3) and the belt tensioner mounting bracket (1).
    NOTE:

    High pressure fuel tubes from the fuel injection pump to the fuel rail or from the fuel rail to the fuel injector must be replaced with new units if removed.

  11. Remove the fuel tube from the fuel injection pump to fuel rail. Refer to TUBE(S), FUEL, REMOVAL .

  12. Remove the bolts (1) and the coolant tube (2).

  13. Remove the bolts (1) and water pump assembly (2).
  14. Remove the bolts (4) and the coolant inlet tube (5).
  15. Remove and discard the O-ring seal (3) from the coolant inlet tube (5).

  16. Remove and discard the O-ring seal (1) from coolant tube (2).
