Theory Of Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2013 Jeep Patriot and 2013 Jeep Compass. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The Transmission Control Module (TCM) monitors the Torque Convertor Clutch for temperature during normal operation. To protect the CV Transmission from a hot temperature condition, the TCM monitors the continuation time of stall speed condition. If the monitored time is more than a predetermined value, this DTC will set causing the TCM to change the allowable engine output torque and illuminating the Over Temperature lamp.
