Steering System: Pump: Removal: 3.6L

CAUTION:

The 3.6L in this vehicle is equipped with an Electro-Hydraulic Power Steering (EHPS) pump requiring a different fluid. Do not mix power steering fluid types. Damage may result to the power steering pump and system if any other fluid is used. The EHPS system uses fluid which meets material specification MS-11655 or equivalent. Do not overfill.

  1. Siphon the power steering reservoir.
  2. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. Refer to CABLES, BATTERY, REMOVAL .
  3. Disconnect the two EHPS pump electrical connectors (6) and the wiring harness to bracket routing clip.
  4. Disconnect the supply (1) and return lines (2) from the EHPS pump (3).
  5. Remove the pressure and return line routing clip bolt from the pump bracket.
  6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  7. If equipped, remove the front skid plate. Refer to PLATE, SKID, FRONT, REMOVAL .
  8. Remove the pressure line (5) retaining bolt (4) and line from the EHPS pump (3).
  9. Loosen the routing clip retaining bolt and position the pressure line (5) aside for access to remove the pump.
  10. Remove the three EHPS pump (3) retaining bolts and remove the pump from the vehicle.
  11. Remove and transfer any necessary components.
