Tank, Fuel: Installation: Installation

  1. If a new fuel tank is being installed, transfer the shield (1) to the fuel tank (2) from the removed tank.
  2. If a new fuel tank is being installed, install the fuel pump module (Front-Wheel Drive/FWD) or the main and auxiliary fuel pump modules (All-Wheel Drive/AWD) into the new fuel tank from the removed tank. Refer to MODULE, FUEL PUMP, INSTALLATION .
  3. Position the fuel tank onto a transmission jack.
  4. Raise the fuel tank close enough to the vehicle underbody to connect the fuel pump module harness connector.

  5. Complete raising the fuel tank (1) into position against the vehicle underbody.
  6. Install the right fuel tank strap (3). Tighten rear bolt (1) to 22 N.m (16 ft. lbs.).
  7. Install the left fuel tank strap (2). Tighten rear bolt (1) to 22 N.m (16 ft. lbs.).

  8. Install the right fuel tank strap bolt (1) and tighten to 22 N.m (16 ft. lbs.).

  9. Install the left fuel tank strap bolt (1) and tighten to 22 N.m (16 ft. lbs.).
  10. Remove the transmission jack.

  11. Connect the fuel filler tube vent line and the fuel tank recirculation line quick connect fittings.
  12. Connect the fuel filler tube (3) to the fuel tank (1). Tighten clamp to 3 N.m (27 in. lbs.).
  13. Install the left and right underbody shield.

    NOTE:

    Right side shown in illustration, left side similar.

  14. If equipped, Install the right and left fuel tank shields (3). Tighten bolts (2) to 55 N.m 41 ft. lbs.).
  15. If equipped with All-Wheel Drive (AWD), reinstall the rear propeller shaft.
  16. Install the exhaust pipes to the vehicle. Refer to PIPE, EXHAUST, INSTALLATION .

  17. Connect the fuel line (2) and vapor line (1, 2) quick connect fittings.

  18. Connect the fuel pump module wire harness connector (2, 6). Install the access cover (3, 4) and securely tighten the screws.
  19. Install the carpet piece covering the access covers for fuel pumps.

  20. Install the rear seat. Refer to SEAT, REAR, INSTALLATION .
  21. Fill the fuel tank.
  22. Connect the battery negative cable.
  23. Use a diagnostic scan tool to pressurize the fuel system.
  24. Check the fuel system carefully for leaks.
