Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- With the scan tool, read DTCM DTCs and record on the repair order.
- Record the Environmental Data.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read DTCM DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Go To 5
- CHECK THE POWER TRANSFER UNIT (PTU)
- Check DTC Fail Type in the Recorded Environmental Data.
Was the DTC Fail Type either Shift into Neutral, Mode Retry Limit, or Fork Block?
Yes
- Replace the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) in accordance with the service information. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Perform the TRANSFER CASE VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Go To 3
- Check DTC Fail Type in the Recorded Environmental Data.
- CHECK THE POWER TRANSFER UNIT ACTUATOR
- Check DTC Fail Type in the Recorded Environmental Data.
Was the DTC Fail Type any of the following; Shift into eLocker, 3x5 Exit eLocker, Button Limit, Stall Pass Neutral, Both Actuator Stall, or 3x5 Range Shift?
Yes
- Replace the Power Transfer Unit Actuator in accordance with the service information. Refer to ACTUATOR, SHIFT .
- Perform the TRANSFER CASE VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Go To 4.
- Check DTC Fail Type in the Recorded Environmental Data.
- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- With the scan tool, read DTCM DTCs and record on the repair order.
- Record the Environmental Data.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read DTCM DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) in accordance with the service information. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Perform the TRANSFER CASE VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Go To 5
- INTERMITTENT WIRING HARNESS AND CONNECTORS
- The conditions necessary to set this DTC are not present at this time.
- Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals, and correct pin tension.
- Wiggle test the wiring harness and connectors while monitoring the scan tool data relative to this circuit.
- Look for the data to change or for the DTC to reset during the wiggle test.
- While monitoring the scan tool data related to this circuit, move the selector switch to each position several times.
- Look for the data to change other than as expected or for the DTC to reset.
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the DTCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Test complete.
