Section 100 (Starting System (Service Information)): Starter: Removal: Diesel

Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
If equipped, remove the belly pan (2).

Disconnect the electrical connector (1) and the B+ cable (2) from the starter (3).

Remove the upper starter mounting bolt.

Remove the lower starter mounting bolt (1) and remove the starter (2).
