Steering System: Gear: Installation: Installation

  1. Install the steering gear on the frame rail and tighten the bolts (1) to 118 N.m (87 ft. lbs.)

  2. Align and install the pitman arm (2) and tighten the nut (3) to 265 N.m (195 ft. lbs.).

    NOTE:

    It may be necessary to pry the axle assembly over to install the track bar (1) at the frame rail.

  3. Position the track bar (1) at the axle bracket, install the nut and bolt (2) at the frame rail bracket and tighten to 169 N.m (125 ft. lbs.).
  4. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.

  5. Align the column coupler shaft (1) to the steering gear (2). Install a new  coupler pinch bolt and tighten to 49 N.m (36 ft. lbs.).

  6. Install the power steering hoses/tubes (1, 2) to the steering gear and tighten to 28 N.m (21 ft. lbs.).
  7. Reinstall the coolant bottle back into position.
  8. Fill the power steering system to the proper level. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  9. Check the toe setting. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
