Theory Of Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2016 Dodge Charger and 2015 Dodge Charger. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The Transmission Control Module (TCM) performs various internal tests to verify proper controller operation.

After installation of a new TCM, the Scan Tool MUST be used to perform the TCM Initialize EGS routine to learn the TCM variant and configure the controller for the proper Vehicle, Engine, and Driveline application. During the TCM Initialize EGS routine, several modules on the CAN-C bus are requested to send data to the TCM. These modules are the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), Body Controller (TIPM/BCM), and Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Module.
