DAMPER, Steering: Removal: Damper

NOTE: Some early built right hand drive vehicles may have a damper with the mounting stud on the damper instead of on the bracket. If the mounting stud is on the damper, the damper and link bracket must be replaced as a kit, and the replacement damper will be different.
NOTE: Left hand drive shown in the illustration, right hand drive similar.

  1. Place the front wheels in a straight ahead position.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Quick Reference/Hoisting - Standard Procedure .
  3. Remove the steering damper retaining nut (3) from the link bracket (4).
  4. Remove the steering damper retaining nut and bolt (1) from the axle bracket.
  5. Remove the steering damper (2) from the vehicle.
