Steering Damper Bracket
- Install the bracket loosely to the tie rod tube.
- The bracket should be oriented such that the stud (1) is on the left (driver) side and pointing rearward in the vehicle, and the U-bolts (4) should assemble on the front.
- Slide the bracket so that the nearest edge (2) is facing the end of the tube (3) the stud (1) on the bracket should be facing the left side of the vehicle.
- Measure from the edge of the bracket (2) to the edge of the tube (3) a distance of 402 mm (15.8 in).
NOTE: The vehicle should be parked on a level surface. The tie rod should be level (front to back) prior to aligning the damper bracket.
- To level the tie rod (1), place a small level on the bottom of the right side tie rod socket (2). Rotate the tie rod until it is level. While maintaining the tie rod at a level position, rotate the damper bracket so that the stud is horizontal and pointed rearward.
- Hand tighten all four nuts (2) for equal thread engagement. Tighten the nuts for one U-bolt at a time, alternating between the top and bottom nut. The final torques should be 20 N.m (15 ft.lbs.) on all four nuts.
- Install the steering damper nut (1) on the steering damper bracket and tighten nut to 68 N.m (50 ft. lbs.).
