Diagnostic Test

  1. TEST FOR INTERMITTENT CONDITION 
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, clear all DTC's.
    3. Operate the Heated Seat Switch in both positions several times.
      NOTE: Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
    4. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Does the scan tool display active: B1183-REAR RIGHT SEAT HEATER CONTROL CIRCUIT HIGH?

      Yes 

      • Go to step  2

      No 

      • The condition that caused this symptom is currently not present. Check for an intermittent condition by inspecting the related wiring harness for chafed, pierced, pinched, and partially broken wires. Also, inspect the related connectors for broken, bent, pushed out, spread, corroded, or contaminated terminals. Repair as necessary.
      • Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Front Control (FCM) - Standard Procedure
  2. (P178) REAR RIGHT SEAT HEATER CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO VOLTAGE 
    NOTE: Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
    1. Disconnect the 2nd Row Seat inline harness connector.
    2. Disconnect the Heated Seat Module harness connector.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. Measure the voltage on the (P178) Rear Right Seat Heater Control circuit.

      Is there any voltage present?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go to step  3
  3. (P178) REAR RIGHT SEAT HEATER CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Measure the resistance of the (P178) Rear Right Seat Heater Control circuit between the Heated Seat Module harness connector and the 2nd Row Seat inline harness connector.

      Is the resistance below 10k ohms?

      Yes 

      • Go to step  4

      No 

  4. (Z909) SEAT HEATER GROUND CIRCUIT OPEN 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Using a 12-volt test light connected to 12-volts, check the (Z909) Seat Heater Ground circuit at the 2nd Row Seat inline harness connector.

      Does the test light illuminate brightly?

      Yes 

      • Go to step  5

      No 

  5. HEATED SEAT MODULE 
    1. Reconnect the HSM harness connector.
    2. Turn the ignition on.
    3. Connect a test light between the (Z909) Seat Heater ground circuit and the (P178) Rear Right Seat Heater Control circuit at the 2nd Row Seat inline harness connector.
    4. Operate the Heated Seat Switch in both positions several times.

      Does the test light illuminate brightly when the switch is on?

      Yes 

      No
