Control Circuit Testing

The starter control circuit components should be tested in the order in which they are listed, as follows:

  1. Starter Relay  - Refer to STARTER RELAY . The starter relay is located within the TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module). Refer to "*NO CRANK CONDITION .
  2. Starter Solenoid  - Refer to STARTER MOTOR  in the Diagnosis and Testing.
  3. Ignition Switch  - Refer to SWITCH-IGNITION and CYLINDER - IGNITION KEY AND LOCK . Replace ignition switch if required.
  4. Clutch Pedal Position Switch  - If equipped with manual transmission.
  5. Park/Neutral Position Switch  - If equipped with automatic transmission, refer to Park/Neutral position switch (Transmission Range Sensor). Refer to appropriate Transmission SERVICE INFORMATION article.
  6. Wire harnesses and connections  - Refer to the SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article .
