Diagnostic Test
- DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) PRESENT
- Using the scan tool, record DTCs.
- Erase DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off, wait 10 seconds, then turn the ignition on.
- If possible, operate the liftgate several times.
- Using the scan tool, read DTCs.
Does the scan tool display B188D-POWER LIFTGATE CONTROL CIRCUIT 1 LOW?
Yes
- Go to step 2
No
- Using the SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors for an intermittent condition.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Front Control (FCM) - Standard Procedure .
- (Q88) LIFTGATE OPEN DRIVER CIRCUIT SHORTED TO THE (Q89) LIFTGATE CLOSE DRIVER CIRCUIT

- POWER LIFTGATE DRIVE UNIT
- Disconnect the Power Liftgate Drive Unit harness connector.
- Measure the resistance between the (Q88) Liftgate Open Driver circuit and the (Q89) Liftgate Close Driver circuit.
Is the resistance below 1, 000 Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (Q88) Liftgate Open Driver circuit for a short to the (Q89) Liftgate Close Driver circuit.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Front Control (FCM) - Standard Procedure .
No
- Replace the Power Liftgate Drive Unit in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Front Control (FCM) - Standard Procedure .
- (Q88) LIFTGATE OPEN DRIVER CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (Q88) Liftgate Open Driver circuit.
Is the resistance below 1, 000 Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (Q88) Liftgate Open Driver circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Front Control (FCM) - Standard Procedure .
No
- Go to step 5
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (Q88) Liftgate Open Driver circuit.
- CHECK THE (Q89) LIFTGATE CLOSE DRIVER FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Reconnect the Power Liftgate Module C1 harness connector.
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (Q89) Liftgate Close Driver circuit.
Is the resistance below 1, 000 Ohms?
Yes
- Replace the Power Liftgate Drive Unit in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Front Control (FCM) - Standard Procedure .
No
- Repair the (Q89) Liftgate Close Driver circuit for a short to ground. If the (Q89) Liftgate Close Driver circuit is OK, replace the Power Liftgate Module in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Front Control (FCM) - Standard Procedure .
