Diagnostic Test
- 1) DTC IS ACTIVE
Ignition on, engine not running.
With the scan tool, Clear DTCs in the Instrument Cluster (CCN).
Monitor the scan tool for at least two minutes.
Cycle the ignition key off and on several times, leaving the ignition on for at least 10 seconds at a time.
Start the engine.
Allow the engine to reach normal operating temperature.
With the scan tool, select View DTCs.
Is the status Active for this DTC?
Yes
- Go to step 2).
No
- Refer to *CHECKING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- 2) CHECK FOR HIGH DTC
Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the Fuel Pump Module harness connector.
Turn the ignition on.
With the scan tool, check Cluster DTCs
Does the scan tool display P0463 FUEL LEVEL SENSOR 1 CIRCUIT HIGH?
Yes
- Go to step 3).
No
- Refer to the Fuel Level Sensor 1 diagnostic procedures. See P0463-FUEL LEVEL SENSOR 1 CIRCUIT HIGH .
- 3) CHECK FOR LOW DTC Fig 2: Connecting A Jumper Wire Between (N4) Fuel Level Sensor No. 1 Signal Circuit And (Z210) Ground Circuit

Turn the ignition off.
Connect a jumper wire between the (N4) Fuel Level Sensor No. 1 Signal circuit and the (Z210) Ground circuit.
Turn the ignition on.
With the scan tool, check Cluster DTCs
Does the scan tool display P0462 FUEL LEVEL SENSOR 1 CIRCUIT LOW?
Yes
- Refer to the service information and remove the Fuel Level Sending unit. Check for proper operation. Replace if necessary. Refer to REMOVAL .
No
- Refer to the Fuel Level Sensor 1 diagnostic procedures. See P0463-FUEL LEVEL SENSOR 1 CIRCUIT HIGH .
