Removal - Engine

- Remove the strut tower support (1).
- Remove the engine cover (1).
1 - GENERATOR 2 - IDLER PULLEY 3 - WATER PUMP 4 - P/S PUMP 5 - A/C COMPRESSOR 6 - CRANKSHAFT 7 - BELT TENSIONER - Perform the Fuel System Pressure Release procedure. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Disconnect the battery negative cable.
- Remove the air cleaner resonator and duct work as an assembly.
- Drain cooling system. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Remove radiator fan shroud. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Remove the A/C compressor with the lines attached. Secure compressor out of the way.
- Remove generator assembly. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Remove the intake manifold and IAFM as an assembly. See REMOVAL .
- Remove the ground wires from the rear of each cylinder head.
1 - Heater Hose 2 - Clamp 3 - Tube 1 - Heater Hose 2 - Clamp 3 - Tube - Disconnect the heater hoses (1).
NOTE: It is not necessary to disconnect P/S hoses from pump, for P/S pump removal.
- Remove the power steering pump and set aside.
- Disconnect the fuel supply line. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Raise and support the vehicle on a hoist and drain the engine oil.
- Remove engine front mount to frame bolts (3) and nuts.
- Disconnect the transmission oil cooler lines from their retainers at the oil pan bolts.
- Disconnect exhaust pipe at manifolds.
- Disconnect the starter wires. Remove starter motor (1). Refer to REMOVAL
.
1 - STRUCTURAL COVER 2 - BOLTS - Remove the structural dust cover (1).
1 - Bolts - Remove drive plate to converter bolts.
1 - BOLTS - Remove the oil pan to transmission bolts (1).
1 - ENGINE 2 - BOLTS 3 - TRANSMISSION - Remove transmission bell housing to engine block bolts (2).
- Lower the vehicle.
1 - Bolts 2 - Engine Lift Fixture 3 - Adapter Bolt 4 - Adapter 5 - Adapter Nut - Install engine lift fixture, special tool # 8984 and 8984-UPD.
- Separate engine from transmission, remove engine from vehicle, and install engine assembly on a repair stand.
