CLOCKSPRING Centering

CAUTION: Turning steering wheel with clockspring that is not properly centered may break or damage wire tape inside clockspring. Clockspring failure may result. The following procedure must be used to center clockspring.
  1. Remove clockspring, if necessary. See CLOCKSPRING  . Depress release button on clockspring. See Fig 1 . Keeping release button depressed, rotate clockspring rotor clockwise to end of travel. DO NOT apply excessive force.
  2. From end of travel, rotate clockspring rotor counterclockwise 2 1/2 turns. Engage release button to lock clockspring position. Clockspring wiring harness pigtail should end up at top of clockspring and alignment arrows should be aligned (Blue roller should be visible in inspection window). Clockspring is now centered.
