Transmission Range Sensor

A non-adjustable Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) is mounted to top of valve body inside transmission and can only be serviced by removing valve body assembly. Electrical connector extends through transmission case. The TRS has 4 switch contacts that monitor shift lever position and send information to powertrain control module. The TRS has an integrated transmission temperature sensor (thermistor) that communicates transmission temperature to powertrain control module.

Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors TRS circuit and will store a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) if a fault is detected. To diagnose TRS faults, a Diagnostic Readout Box (DRBIII(R)) scan tool, volt/ohmmeter and vehicle wiring diagrams are required. If DTCs are present, see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE to retrieve DTCs and for detailed testing procedures.
