Installation - Engine Assembly
- Position the engine in the vehicle.
- Install both left and right side engine mounts into the frame mounts.
- Raise the vehicle.
- Install the transmission bellhousing to engine mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts to 41 N.m (30ft. lbs.).
- Tighten the engine mount thru bolts.
- Install the torque convertor bolts.
- Connect the ground straps on the left and right side of the engine.
- Install the starter.
- Connect the crankshaft position sensor.
- Install the engine block heater power cable, if equipped.
- Install the structural cover.
- Install the exhaust pipe.
- Connect the oxygen sensors.
- Lower vehicle.
- Connect the knock sensors.
- Connect the engine to body ground straps.
- Install the power brake booster vacuum hose.
- Install the breather hoses.
- Install the PCV hose.
- Install the fuel rail.
- Install the coil over plugs.
- Reconnect the engine wiring harness at the following points:
- Intake air temperature (IAT) sensor
- Fuel Injectors
- Throttle Position (TPS) Switch
- Idle Air Control (IAC) Motor
- Engine Oil Pressure Switch
- Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor
- Manifold Absolute Pressure MAP) Sensor
- Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor
- Coil Over Plugs
- Crankshaft Position Sensor
- Connect lower radiator hose.
- Connect upper radiator hose.
- Connect throttle and speed control cables.
- Install the heater hose assembly.
- Install coolant recovery bottle.
- Install the power steering pump.
- Install the generator.
- Install the A/C compressor.
- Install the drive belt.
- Install the fan shroud with the electric fan assembly.
- Install the radiator core support bracket.
- Install the air cleaner assembly.
- Refill the engine cooling system.
- Install the hood.
- Check and fill engine oil.
- Connect the battery negative cable.
- Start the engine and check for leaks.
CAUTION:
Use caution when installing 2.4L engine into vehicle equipped with manual transmission, as clearance is tight.
CAUTION:
The structural cover requires a specific torque sequence. Failure to follow this sequence may cause severe damage to the cover.
