All Gauges Inoperative

Possible Causes:

Testing

  1. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select SYSTEM MONITORS and J1850 MODULE SCAN. If scan tool displays MIC PRESENT on Bus, go to next step. If scan tool does not display MIC PRESENT on Bus, go to BUS (+) &/OR BUS (-) OPEN OR NO RESPONSE FROM INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under COMMUNICATIONS.
  2. Using scan tool, select BODY, MIC SYSTEM TESTS and PCM MONITOR. If scan tool does not display PCM INACTIVE on bus, go to next step. If scan tool displays PCM INACTIVE on bus, go to NO RESPONSE FROM POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCI BUS)  under COMMUNICATIONS.
  3. Using scan tool, select BODY, MIC and MODULE DISPLAY. If scan tool does not display NO RESPONSE from MIC, go to next step. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE from MIC, go to BUS (+) &/OR BUS (-) OPEN OR NO RESPONSE FROM INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under COMMUNICATIONS.
  4. Turn ignition off. Check fuse No. 10 (10-amp) in fuse block, located on firewall next to glove box. See Figure and Figure . If fuse is faulty, replace fuse. Turn ignition on for one minute. Turn ignition off. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, repair short to ground on Dark Blue/White wire between instrument cluster connector C1 terminal No. 7 and fuse No. 10 (10-amp) in fuse block.
  5. Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn ignition on. Check voltage at instrument cluster connector C1 terminal No. 7 (Dark Blue/White wire). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open Dark Blue/White wire between instrument cluster and fuse No. 10 (10-amp) in fuse block.
  6. Check resistance between instrument cluster connector C1 terminal No. 5 (Black/Light Green wire) and ground. See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair open on Black/Light Green wire.
