Chime Inoperative With Key In Ignition, Driver's Door Open
Possible Causes:
- Open Door Ajar Ground Circuit
- Open/Missing Fuse No. 4
- Driver Door Ajar Switch
- Door Ajar Switch Output Circuit Open
- Driver Door Ajar Switch Sense Circuit Open
- Instrument Cluster - Door Ajar
- Ignition Switch Ground Circuit Open
- Key-In Ignition Switch Open
- Key-In Ignition Switch Sense Circuit Open
- Instrument Cluster - Key-In
Testing
- Turn ignition on. Open driver's door. Using scan tool, select ELECTRO MECH CLUSTER INPUT OUTPUT. Using scan tool, check DR DOOR SW status. If status is CLOSED, go to next step. If status is not CLOSED, go to step 6 .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect 10-pin ignition switch harness connector. See Figure . Ensure key is fully inserted in ignition switch. Measure resistance between ignition switch terminals No. 5 and 10. If resistance is less than 20 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 20 ohms, replace ignition switch. See IGNITION SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES - WRANGLER article.
- Check resistance between ignition switch harness connector terminal No. 10 (Black wire) and ground. See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open or poor connection on Black wire to ground, located on left kick panel.
- Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance of Light Blue wire between ignition switch harness connector terminal No. 5 and 16-pin instrument cluster connector C2 terminal No. 13. See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open circuit on Light Blue wire.
- Replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Check fuse No. 4 (10-amp) in fuse block, located on firewall next to glove box. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is faulty or missing, replace fuse and recheck system.
- Using test light connected to battery voltage, probe fuse block cavity for fuse No. 4 (ground terminal). See Figure and Figure . If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open or poor connection on Black wire between fuse block and ground, located on left kick panel.
- Install fuse No. 4 in fuse block. Disconnect 3-pin driver's door ajar switch connector. See Figure . Using scan tool, check DR DOOR SW status. If status is not CLOSED, go to next step. If status is CLOSED, replace driver's door ajar switch.
- Check resistance of Yellow/Black wire between driver's door ajar switch harness connector terminal No. 1 and fuse block cavity for fuse No. 4 (power terminal). See Figure -Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open circuit on Yellow/Black wire.
- Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance of Tan wire between driver's door ajar switch harness connector terminal No. 3 and 16-pin instrument cluster connector C2 terminal No. 4. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open circuit on Tan wire.
- Replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
