The fuel gauge sending unit is a separate part of the fuel pump module. Fuel gauge sending unit may be serviced separately. To test the gauge sending unit, the fuel pump most be removed from fuel tank. See REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. Measure the resistance across the sending unit terminals. With float in the up position, resistance should be 20 ohms (+/- 5%). With float in the down position, resistance should be 270 ohms (+/- 5%).
