Checking The Ambient Battery Temperature Sensor (BTS)

Possible Causes:

Testing

  1. Turn ignition on. With the DRBIII(R) in sensors, read the ambient battery temperature degree value and record the reading. Using a temperature probe, measure the air near the ambient battery temperature sensor. If the recorded ambient temperature value is within 10°F (-12.2°C) of the temperature probe reading, go to next step. If not, replace the ambient battery temperature sensor. See BATTERY TEMPERATURE SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform VER-3 TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS
  2. Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the ambient battery harness connector. Check connectors, clean and repair as necessary. Connect a jumper across the terminals of the ambient battery harness side. Turn ignition on. With the DRBIII(R) in inputs/outputs, read the ambient battery voltage. If the voltage reading is equal to zero, replace the ambient battery temperature sensor. See BATTERY TEMPERATURE SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform VER-3 TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If not, test complete.
