Testing

Turn the ignition on. With the DRBIII(R), select System Monitors, then J1850 Module Scan. Does the DRBIII(R) display MIC PRESENT on the BUS? If yes, go to next step. If no, refer to COMMUNICATION in DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION or SYMPTOM IDENTIFICATION table for the related symptom(s).
Turn the ignition on. With the DRBIII(R), select Body, MIC, SYSTEM TESTS, PCM Monitor. Does the DRBIII(R) display PCM INACTIVE on the BUS? If yes, see NO RESPONSE FROM PCM (PCI BUS) or NO RESPONSE FROM PCM (SCI ONLY) . If no, go to next step.
Turn the ignition on. With the DRBIII(R), select Body, MIC, MODULE DISPLAY Does the DRBIII(R) display NO RESPONSE from MIC? If yes, see BUS +/- SIGNALS OPEN OR NO RESPONSE FROM INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST . If no, go to next step.
Turn the ignition off. Inspect fuse No. 13 in the Junction Block. If the fuse is open, replace with proper rated fuse. Turn the ignition on for one minute. Turn the ignition off. Inspect fuse No. 13 in the Junction Block. Is the fuse open? If yes, repair the Fused Ignition Switch Output circuit for a short to ground. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST . If no, go to next step.
Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the Instrument Cluster harness connector. Turn the ignition on. Measure the voltage between the Fused Ignition Switch Output circuit and ground. Is the voltage above 10.5 volts? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair the Fused Ignition Switch Output circuit for an open. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the Instrument Cluster harness connector. Measure the resistance between ground and the Instrument Cluster Ground circuit. Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms? If yes, replace the Instrument Cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - LIBERTY article. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST . If no, repair the Instrument Cluster Ground circuit for an open. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
