DTC P1687: No Cluster Bus Message: Testing
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Cycle ignition on and off several times. Using scan tool, check for DTCs. If DTC P1687 is present and set counter on scan tool display equals zero, go to next step. If DTC P1687 is not present, or set counter on scan tool display does not equal zero, go to step 4 .
- Using scan tool, select BODY system, then ELECTRO/MECH CLUSTER. If scan tool communicates with instrument cluster, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with instrument cluster, check for open bus circuits from instrument cluster. See COMMUNICATIONS under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - WRANGLER article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
- Start engine and allow it to idle. Compare actual engine speed with tachometer on instrument cluster. If tachometer indicates correct engine speed, replace PCM. If tachometer does not display correct engine speed, perform instrument cluster self-test. See ONE GAUGE INOPERATIVE under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - WRANGLER article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
- Turn ignition off. It is assumed that there is an intermittent problem with wiring harness and/or connectors. Visually inspect all related connectors and wiring harness for any possible problems. Repair wiring or connectors as necessary. Also, check for any related technical service bulletins. If no problems are found, test is complete.
