Chime Inoperative With Driver's Seat Belt Unfastened

Possible Causes:

Testing

  1. Unfasten driver's seat belt. Using scan tool, select ELECTRO MECH CLUSTER INPUT OUTPUT. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, check driver's seat belt switch status. If status is CLOSED, go to step  2 . If status is not CLOSED, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Disconnect 2-pin seat belt switch connector. See Figure . Using scan tool, check driver's seat belt switch status. If status is CLOSED, go to next step. If status is not CLOSED, check for short to ground on seat belt switch pigtail. Repair as necessary. If no problem is found, replace seat belt buckle.
  3. Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance between seat belt switch harness connector terminal No. 1 (Light Green/Red wire) and ground. See Figure . If resistance is more than 100 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 100 ohms or less, repair short to ground on Light Green/Red wire between seat belt switch and instrument cluster.
  4. If no other problems are found, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
